Please keep in mind that many of the entries in the file are speculative
-- e.g., if a Joe Kiddle was born in Dingley Dell in 1620, and a Joe
Kiddle gets married in Dingley Dell in 1641, I have assumed they are the
same Joe. [You will see many "Possibly" and "some "Probably" qualifiers
in the entries -- they are a sign of speculation on my part] The file is a
finding aid, NOT genealogy. Also, all K* surnames have been "normalized" to
Kiddell, so the surname in the source could be any of the many variant
spellings. Bob
Responsibility for maintaining the Kettle entries in the English GRO Birth, Marriage and
Death indexes has thankfully been transferred to
FreeBMD. I contributed the following information, but gradually more data will be
added by other contributors.
3880 people stored in a zipped Gedcom file. This database is designed as a finding
aid, so for example 'Betsy Kettle' will also be listed as 'Elizabeth Kettle', but you
should not assume that she was ever called Elizabeth.
Very little of the information has been rechecked; always check back to the original
records and please let me know if
you find any errors. Information about living individuals is withheld.
2343 more people, many from Suffolk, England. Zipped GEDCOM file. This is the file
mentioned in the February 1999 edition of Suffolk Roots in the article "Kettle Steams
Round Suffolk".
274 people. All of the Ketil, Ulfketils, Anscetels etc in this database date from before
the introduction of surnames and most of them are of Viking origin. Particularly interesting
people are Ketil Flatnose, ruler of the Hebrides c860 and Ketel the thegn who wrote his will
in East Anglia c1052 before leaving on a pilgrimage to Rome. The Ketels who have bit parts
in the Viking Sagas should not be considered to be real historical people. Zipped GEDCOM file.
