holiday home in Tywyn Gwynedd Steven Williams
Am looking for info.on Enoch Kettle who married Mary Smith circa 1890. As an adult
he lived in Wolverhampton, England. I suspect he might have been born in Newcastle
-U- Lyme, Staffs. Verbal history suggests that he joined the army during the Boer
War. He changed his name (unofficially) to Cattell circa 1900. Did he abscond and
change his name as a result? He might have joined the South Staffs Regiment. Do
they have any records? Children were Isaac, Thomas, Elizabeth, Enoch, Jack, Harry. Trevor Cattell
My father was Thomas Kettles born in New York City, USA circa December 6, 1911
or 12 or 13. He married Mary Dowling in Fort Benning, Ga. where he was stationed
as a First Lieutenant in 1941 apx. My fathers mothers name was Sara or Sarah and
my father had two sisters - an older one Agnes and a younger one Ruth. Ruth had
three children - Vincent, Seran and Kathy. I have no idea of what happened to my
cousins. I know that Ruth is dead. My cousins would be in their 50's. I don't
know much about my dad's family because my parents were divorced when I was three
and I didn't see much of my dad. He died in 1981. My father's cousin is John
Boyle who is 88 or 89and lives in Florida. They grew up in Hell's Kitchen in NYC.
I know he thought of himself as Irish American but I see that many Kettles'
are from England originally.I would love to hear from anyone with info about the
Kettles family. Also, I only know it was rumored my grandfather may have built
railroads in the west but this is pure speculation. He died long before I was born
and my grandmother remarried and he was dead by the time I was born in 1950.

I have stumbled across a tiny Kettle link while researching the Statham family so
I thought I would post it here in case it is of interest to someone. The death
certificate for Joseph Statham, who was born in Staffordshire on Feb 27 1881 (some
sources say Feb 28), lists his parents as James Statham and Thirza Kettle. Both
were born in England. Joseph died in hospital in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
but had been living in Nanaimo BC prior to that. His father, James, who was born in
England in 1855, died in Nanaimo on July 19 1929. He also had two sisters who
emigrated to Canada, Annice and Thirza. Thirza was born about 1886 in England. She
came to Canada later than her father and may have come with her husband Walter
Wharton. According to the family, Thirza Kettle Statham did not come with her
husband when he emigrated although she was alive at that time.
If this strikes a cord with anyone I'd be happy to look up more information at this
end. I gather it was some sort of unhappy family circumstance that split the
family so someone at your end may have dead ended at Thirza Kettle Statham...
and she has descendents who are alive and well in Canada. Evelyn

Recently found the biography of my great-great-great grandparents...
William Gibbs and Sarah Creamer. The book "History of Ogle County IL 1878"
states that Sarah was the daughter of John Creamer and Parah Kettle. I suspect
it's a miss print and should be Sarah... but I'm just speculating - if someone
has a Parah, I'd be thrilled! Location is Maryland, USA and time period would
be late 1700's early 1800's... I don't have Sarah Creamer's birth date but
William Gibbs is 1808. Any leads would be greeted with great joy! Thanks Sherri Myers-Wray
